Red Pollard honoured with Sign
One of the greatest riders in Canadian history — Red Pollard — has been given a special honour by the city of Edmonton.
His name becomes a permanent part of what used to be 79th street, the last thoroughfare used by trailers as they haul horses toward the barns at Northlands Park.
Pollard and his exceptional record aboard the famed Seabiscuit were immortalized in a 2003 motion picture.
City councillor Kerry Diotte made the announcement and had a “Red Pollard Way” signpost unveiled during a morning news conference publicizing Saturday’s 83rd running of Canada’s most lucrative thoroughbred race west of Ontario.
