The 31st Annual Sovereign Awards will be held at the Wyndham Bristol Place Hotel Toronto on Friday, December 16, 2005. 

Commencing this year, ballots and voters packages will no longer be distributed by courier.  All voters must cast their ballots online.   Eligible voters may begin voting online at 9:00 am on Wednesday, November 30th and must cast their final ballots by 9:00 a.m. on Monday, December 5th, 2005. 

PricewaterhouseCoopers Chartered Accountants will continue to audit the process and will release the names of the three finalists in the fifteen divisional categories to The Jockey Club of Canada for release to the public on Thursday, December 8th, 2005.   The three finalists for Horse of the Year will not be announced until the night of the awards presentation. 

Owners and trainers should note that in order to be eligible for Sovereign Awards consideration, horses must make a minimum of three starts in Canada prior to Sunday, November 27th, 2005. 

Submissions to the four media categories must be received in the office of The Jockey Club of Canada, no later than 5:00 p.m. (EDT) on Monday, October 31st.  Submissions must be of Canadian Thoroughbred racing or breeding content and must have been published/aired between November 1, 2004 and October 31, 2005.  Contestants in the media categories are limited to one submission per category.  In the event that more than one submission is received in any category, the author, photographer or producer/director will be asked to decide which submission should be entered. All submissions must be original works that have not previously been submitted to the Sovereign Awards for consideration.

Photographers submitting a photograph should supply ten (10) copies, 8”x 10” in size, along with the name of the publication, and the date that the photograph appeared. Please do not write on the back of the photographs.

Submissions can be made to the Film/Video/Broadcastcategory by providing a copy of a film/video in Beta/Beta SP or VHS Format. Submissions to the Broadcast category should be made by providing a copy of a broadcast on a cassette tape or a compact disc. A letter should accompany the submission detailing the names of the parties involved, the date the production aired as well as the name of the television or radio station the submission first aired on.

Submissions to the Newspaper Articleand Feature Storycategories should be made by providing a copy of the article/story on a 3½” floppy disk by mail, or by e-mail to jockeyclub@bellnet.ca.  All submissions must be accompanied by a cut of the article/story indicating the name of the publication and the date the article appeared in print

Judges will be sent the media submissions on Thursday, November 3rd and will return their completed ballots to PricewaterhouseCoopers by Thursday, November 10th  by 5:00 p.m. (EDT).   The three finalists in each of the four media categories will be announced on Tuesday, November 15th.
