Individuals invited to serve on Quarter Horse Advisory Group
Quarter Horse Racing Industry Development Plan
Toronto, ON -- The Ontario Racing Commission (ORC) is inviting nominations from individuals to participate in a Quarter Horse Racing Industry Advisory Group, a group which will oversee the continued development of the Quarter Horse Racing Industry. The ORC will be accepting applications until November 29, 2007.
Since 2006, the Quarter Horse racing industry has benefited from slot revenue generated by Ajax Downs. As the Administrator of the Plan, the ORC has worked with the Quarter Horse racing industry and the track operator of Ajax Downs to implement the multi-year Quarter Horse Racing Industry Development Plan created to support the growth of this racing sector in responsible, sustainable and measured manner.
The process to craft the Industry Development Plan took a unique approach. It included exhaustive input from a team of dedicated volunteers representing Quarter Horse breeding and racing. This Quarter Horse Racing Industry Steering Committee has taken their racing sector to a new level in terms of return on investments and expanded racing opportunities. As provided for in the Plan, it is now time to move the governance of the program to a new level with the creation of a Quarter Horse Racing Industry Advisory Group.
The Advisory Group will meet regularly, every four to six weeks, to review the progress of The Plan and to make recommendations to the ORC. The Advisory Group will be responsible for providing input and advice to the ORC Administration in the following areas:
- Developing benchmarks, targets and expected outcomes
- Preparing budgets and annual performance reviews
- Recommending revisions to The Plan that reflect the changing environment and business needs of the Ontario Quarter Horse Racing industry
- Reviewing the Breeding Program eligibility criteria, to ensure these are in-line with goals and objectives of The Plan
- Discussing policies and protocols relating to The Program Registry
- Assisting in the stewarding of The Plan with industry stakeholders
- Championing The Plan within the racing industry
The Advisory Group will consist of nine members.
