The Jockey Club of Canada recently elected two new members to the organization, William (Bill) Farish, Jr. and Charles (Chuck) Fipke.

Mr. Farish serves on the boards of many prominent businesses and organizations within the horse racing industry. In addition to his duties as Chairman of Breeders’ Cup, Mr. Farish is Chairman of the National Thoroughbred Racing Associations’ PAC Committee and is active on the boards of The Jockey Club, Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association, The Blood-Horse and the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association. Mr. Farish is a principal at Lane’s End Farm in Kentucky and is the founder and managing member of Woodford Racing, LLC, a racing stable consisting of around 50 horses. Outside of his interests in the horse racing industry, Mr. Farish currently is Executive Vice-President and Director of W.S. Farish & Co., a Houston - based investment management company. Mr. Farish is active on the board of the Markey Cancer Center Foundation and serves as Vice-President and Membership Committee Chairman of the Saratoga Reading Rooms.

Mr. Fipke’s has owned thoroughbred race horses since 1981 when he bought Boldest Spirit at a sale in Vancouver, British Columbia. Boldest Spirit raced and eventually became a broodmare. Boldest Spirit produced Traveling Spirit, who was voted champion 2-Year-Old in 1991, the same year Mr. Fipke was voted leading breeder in British Columbia. Canadian homebred, Perfect Soul, who was trained by Roger Attfield, earned more than $1.5 million in his career and was Canada’s Champion Male Turf Horse in 2003. Perfect Soul currently stands at Darby Dan Farms in Lexington, Kentucky. Canadian homebred, Not Bourbon, won the 2008 Queen’s Plate for Mr. Fipke at Woodbine Racetrack this past June. Mr. Fipke currently owns 20 race horses in training with Roger Attfield in Canada, Barclay Tagg in the Eastern United States, Bob Baffert in the Western United States and John Oxx in Ireland. Mr. Fipke also owns 50 broodmares that he keeps at Darby Dan, Coolmore in Ireland and with J.B. McvKathan in Ocala, Florida. Mr. Fipke is a highly acclaimed geologist and a leading figure in the discovery of diamonds and precious stones in North America. Mr. Fipke is Chairman of Metalex, a diamond exploration company and Cantex, a company searching for gold in Nevada and Yemen. In 2006, he donated $6 million through his foundation to establish the Charles Fipke Centre for Innovative Research at University of British Columbia, Okanagan.
